Samsung held its Unpacked event on 11th February 2020 in San Francisco and there was quite a buzz around Unpacked as it was rumored that Samsung would be launching next iteration in their flagship series of devices i.e. Galaxy S-series along with a new foldable device and 2nd generation Galaxy Buds namely Galaxy Buds+, In this article we will be focusing more on Galaxy Z-flip.
Galaxy Z Flip comes with a clamshell foldable design and unlike Galaxy Fold seems more durable and usable. It spots a 6.7 inches Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display that adds some extra contrast and punch to your experience. Aspect ratio of the screen is whooping 21.9:9 with a resolution of 2636X1080 pixels and pixel density of 425ppi (Pixel Per Inch). It also packs a 1.1 inches Super AMOLED display that can be used to peek through notifications and access some quick settings while the device is in folded condition, you can also use this small screen to capture selfies. Pixel density of this screen is 303ppi while the resolution being 300X112 pixels.
Z Flip packs a dual rear camera setup. Both the lens are of 12MP configuration one of them is dedicated to Ultra-Wide shots with a field of view of 123 degrees where the pixel size is 1.12µm and the aperture is F2.2 while the second one can capture sharp wide angled shots and comes packed with a new Auto Focus technology namely ‘Super Speed Dual Pixel Auto Focus’ alongwith ‘Optical Image Stabilization’ the pixel size will be 1.4 µm while the field of view is 78 degree aperture of F1.8. You can also access 8X digital zoom alongwith HDR10+ recording. You also get a selfie shooter of 10MP with aperture of F2.4 and pixel size of 1.22 µm and field of view 80 degree with additional support of live auto focus.
It packs a dual battery system that comes out to be 3300 mAh. It also supports fast charging via power cord and wireless charging under provision of QC 2.0, you can also use the Wireless PowerShare feature to wirelessly charge other devices with assistance of Z Flip. It supports dual band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 alongwith support of NFC.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip makes use of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset that is based on 7nm architecture with a maximum clock speed of 2.95GHz. In certain regions Samsung will be using there Exynos 990 chipset instead of Snapdragon 855+. It will be available in only one storage variant i.e. 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It provisions dual SIM setup as well where one will be an e-SIM while the other one will be a nano SIM. Z Flip will be running on OneUI 2.1 out of the box on top of Android 10.
The device is priced at $1,380 or Rs. 98,500 approx. and will be made available in two or three different color variants depending upon the region and a special Thom Browne Edition. The colors are Mirror Purple, Mirror Black and Mirror Gold. This device is set to go live on sale today i.e. 14th February 2020 in certain countries while India launch seems forthcoming but the dates are not yet confirmed.
