Virtual Reality: What it is for? How does it work? Everything you need to know is here: Now as we all are living so busy life in this busy world, there are many things that are practically not possible to be done & have fun of those little things. So, the technology that is totally made for us to live a life, whatever way we like & for how long we want it to be, is possible in the Virtual world through VR Technology.
Virtual Reality: What it is for? How does it work? Everything you need to know is here:
Virtual Reality is an artificial technology that can be explained via different sets of words, so let me take you through the different definitions of the same for better understanding:
Virtual Reality as the name itself includes virtual & reality that means an artificial environment that has been created with the help of any software & shown up to the audience in a manner that the audience suspends belief & accepts it as a real environment.
VR – Virtual Reality or virtual realities is sometimes also called as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated reality. This technology replicates an environment, real or imagined & simulates a user’s physical presence into that environment in a way that allows the user to interact with it & feel it.
Virtual Reality is the term used to describe a 3-dimensional, computer generated environment which can be explored & interacted with, by a person. That person becomes part of this virtual world or is immersed within this environment & at the same time, is able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions.
Virtual Reality typically refers to the computer technologies that use software to generate realistic images, sounds & other sensations that replicate a real environment & simulates a user’s physical presence in the environment, by enabling the user to interact with this space & any objects depicted therein using specialized display screens or projectors & other devices.
As stated & mentioned in the above definitions I am sure you all must have understood one or the other sets of wordings in order to understand the Virtual Reality in a best & easiest possible way. So that was the simple introduction to the World of Virtual Reality, now lets move a bit deeper & understand the technology behind that realistic virtuality.
The Technology behind:
Virtual Reality actually brings the user into the digital world by cutting off outside stimuli & in this way the person is more focused onto the digital content now. Most of the latest virtual realities are displayed either on a computer display, a projector or the most latest virtual reality headset i.e. Most commonly called as Head mounted display (HMD).
The VR headsets or so called HMDs are goaled primarily for to create whatever appears onto your mobile phone display into a life size, 3D virtual environment. The VR headsets use either two input/feeds sent to one display or two LCD displays one for each eye. The lenses are placed between the eyes & the pixels so as to create a goggles like thing that can be adjusted according to the persons need. The lenses focus & reshape the picture according to the need of the eye separately & creates an stereotypic 3D image by properly angling both the 2D images to mimic how each of the two eyes views the world. If you want to see differences try to close your one eye & you can feel the idea behind the whole thing.
Now a days there are different technologies & sensible VR headsets are available & being developed which are like:
Head Tracking:
It means the VR that you are wearing will move the picture or video always in front of you no matter where you position or look up to either the side ways, up or down. A system called 6DoF that technically means six degrees of freedom plots the head in terms of our x,y & z axis in order to measure the heads movement forward & backwards, sideways & shoulder to shoulder. Few components that are useful & being used are a gyroscope, accelerometer & a magnetometer. An external camera for monitoring those signals can also be used like sony is using so as to provide a 360 degrees of head tracking.
Motion Tracking:
The big VR players are still working out motion tracking although head tracking being a good advantage for premium headsets. It is used like when you want to see your hands in a virtual space. An infrared sensor is used to track hand movements that are strapped to the front of the kit. The motion tracking VR is based so as to use your own hands in VR. Just have to grab each controller & use buttons, thumb sticks & triggers during VR games. For instance if you have to shoot a gun just squeeze on the hand trigger & see yourself triggering in a virtual reality world. Likeiwise the gesture controller is also being developed with a matrix of sensors & it would sense waiving & pointing like gestures.
Eye Tracking:
The final piece of a VR puzzle is the eye tracker, which works on an infrared sensor. That sensor monitors our eyes inside the headset so the headset knows where the eyes are looking in virtual reality. Another advantage or you can say the main use of this eye tracking can be done, allowing in-game characters to more precisely react to where you are looking & hence make the field feel more realistic.

The Future of Virtual Reality:
Brighter future of Virtual Reality can be seen & judged very clearly with the current scenario popularity. The biggest companies are involved & indulged in a huge competition in making & promoting there virtual world reality device. While keeping all these things in mind the progress can’t be left alone to the VR developers alone. Now as people are too much involved with the VR world they will further want to explore & enjoy their favorite films & games with their smart devices. So it is needed to establish itself as a truly mainstream device, which didn’t happened in the current year.
Many other limitations are still there between the users & the VR devices like the cost of device & price required to provide a high end streaming device. And as Nvidia also predicted last December that in 2016 only 13 million pCs will be powerful enough to run VR that means less than 1% of the total 1.43 billion PCs will be covered, which seems to be a very slow start.
Although potential has always been there the main cause behind every prediction. So the potential that companies & developers are putting into the technology seems to be very soon bringing up with the all set future with the VRs.
Japan Display Has Unveils New VR Panel With 651 PPI: Surely VR is future display technology, as many companies are trying to make VR experience more easy and assessable. As today Japan Display (JDI) has unveiled its latest LTPS TFT LCD technology which is going to use in VR headset and also head mounted display. JDI has gives some innovation to display as its new panel solve the problem of refresh pixel and pixel density, as the refresh rate is one of the bigger drawbacks of VR headset which causes some problem to Humans. The new 3-42-inch panel boosts the pixel density up to 651 pixels-per-inch having a resolution about 1440×1700 resolution. As this much of density will remove some off screen glitches and spots you notice while wearing the VR headset.
Japan Display Has Unveils New VR Panel With 651 PPI:
Talking about another famous VR headset like HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PSVR all these displays have stuck under 500 PPI having 447, 461 and 386 PPI respectively. But there is also some good display like in Samsung Gear VR which has 557 PPI having QHD resolution which means that picture will be sharper and vivid. But there is also one of the best display with 1008 PPI which is prototype recently shown off by Sharp.
Talking about other good feature of this display is it’s refresh rate as 3.46-inch VR panel having 90Hz of refresh rate as this refresh found in recent VR headset. As this much of Refresh rate help developer and other VR expertise to provide more content without the issue of motion blur and prevent the wearer from feeling motion sickness.
People who have a keen interest in Display panel spotted that this display has LCD panel rather than an OLED display which we saw in today’s display, while the display has the capability which shows that it can withstand in a competitive situation. The recently unveiled Google Daydream specification states that display Black to White latency must be less than 3ms, and this panel offers a typical 3ms response, falling to 6ms worst case, which just falls a little short of the ideal. This was achieved using a strobing backlight technology, which helps to greatly reduce motion blur on LCD panels.
Japan Display also has plans to make a new display with 800 PPI for their future VR experience. As this much PPI will able to provide this much of detailing and crisp viewing experience. This much of PPI require a good GPU power available which is surely revels in future Soc.
Faster & Better: One Plus 3T: As expected by all of us it didn’t come out that way with the all new One Plus 3T in the case of OS which was earlier expected to be the latest one i.e Android v7.0 (Nougat) but it actually comes with Android v6.0 (Marshmallow). Although OnePlus has made clarity about the sooner availability for the upgrade to 7.0 Nougat in future for both OnePlus 3 & 3T.
Faster & Better: One Plus 3T:
Some comparison within both the closely launched flagships from One Plus may be noticed as I have been using the newer one for about 15-18 days long & it is good Experience anytime, although there is nothing much different from the predecessor One Plus 3 in many aspects. The 3T has additionally offered with a gray color & 128 GB of storage options which is an addition to the previous flagship phone. Also, the Processor is faster, improved battery & front faced camera is now better.
As the new phone from One Plus has arrived so frequently, there has to be a reason behind that one. So, the 3T is having some more in the software department, the Gesture controls have been updated. With the new gesture controls, you will be able to turn the phone over to mute during a call & screenshots can be easily taken just by sliding 3 fingers down the screen. Additional security for every individual Apps & design of icons is made possible with the 3T model.
Let’s jump to different aspects of the all new 3T, one by one:
Design:
While looking at the design, the 3T is exactly like the earlier model from OnePlus. Made up of full Metal body, slightly curving from the back with all sides & corners being rounded. The 3T is also very light enough to carry & use despite the fact of being entirely made up of metal and as the back sides have been tapered it also seems thinner when used. Distinguishing feature from the predecessor is only the color which can tell us about it being a OnePlus 3 or the 3T.
Addition to the variants of this flagship is the replacement of silver color by a gunmetal color. While configured with different storage capacities, the color variant availability also varies as the golden variant will only be available for the 64 GB model while the gunmetal will have both 64 GB & 128 GB of storage capabilities. Designs of the buttons have been made so as to cope up with the handy usefulness of the phone.
Display:
It comes out with 5.5 inches of AMOLED display having a resolution of 1080p. As the updated OxygenOS also gives the option for dark mode theme which is built-in to OxygenOS for taking advantages of the deep inky blacks. in addition to the expected rich & vibrant colors with high contrast from AMOLED screen.
Protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 the 1920×1080 resolution phone is no more a problem in terms of use for uncomfortable outdoor visibility or sharpness. It has a great 1080p resolution that too remains unnoticeable while comparison with Quad HD screens unless a VR is connected to the device.
The most expected section for the all-new device is this, as it was an expectation for a Nougat updated phone with this one but unfortunately, it turned out to be a lower one. OnePlus 3T runs with OxygenOS 3.5.1 based on Android v6.0 Marshmallow. Although an update to Nougat will be available sooner for the device as quoted by one of the officials from OnePlus. Many of the customizations are available for better experiences of users with the current version of Android also. Few new customizations have also been added in the latest OxygenOS like the Built-in night mode theme, custom accent colors, icon customization tools & the gestures additions too is a great new experience to use.
In terms of performance, the 3T model is a boost than the earlier one as its Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor has been at a speed of 2.35 GHz, which is even faster than the one that is equipped with Google Pixel smartphones. The RAM in the 3T is same as the 3 i.e 6 GB. So, the performance is just awesome with the upgraded combination of processor & the RAM. Everything on the device is even smoother than earlier.
Hardware:
Available with two different storage capacities, the 3T model features non-expandable smartphone device. Although it brings up the 128 GB of onboard storage in a gunmetal color variant which is a totally different variant that is made available to attract users. I also loved the color & also it was fulfilling my needs of storage that was available onboard. Fast fingerprint scanner being placed in the home button is easy to use & unlock the device. The 3T has also boosted up the battery capacity by up to 13% from the predecessor without making any changes in the dimension & weight of the device & that’s a great piece of work they have done.
Dash charging technology is no longer new to everyone now. It is now the most common way for smartphone developers for quickly & easily charging up the phone for long backups. Having an advantage of resisting the heat developed through quick charging to the wall adapters only & not allowing it to come along into the device is far safer than any other fast charging options available these days.
Camera:
An upgrade to the front-facing camera have been received with the all new 3T but this change is limited to the front only as the rear camera is the same like in the OnePlus 3 model i.e. Of 16 MP. This time the front facing camera that is built-in is 16 MP, which is double of the predecessor model. The front facing camera also comes along with a f/2.0 aperture which captures great selfies even in low or dimmed light areas. So now the OnePlus 3T is having an equivalent camera on the front & on the back and that are of 16 MP. This is definitely a good combination camera phone when it comes to a good picture quality. For a dynamic range, the camera can overexpose to the click & highlight the focused ones very easily.
Battery:
In a very similar technology like the OnePlus 3, the 3T uses OnePlus’ proprietary Dash Charging fast charging system, which promises to provide “a day’s power in half an hour” of charging. It lives up to that claim, rapidly charging the 3T’s battery in just a few minutes. But it’s not compatible with Qualcomm’s much more common Quick Charge platform, and it only works with OnePlus’ charging brick and USB cable. The 3T offers a better battery capacity of 3400 mAh which is an add-on of 400 mAh in the predecessor i.e. OnePlus 3.
Overall Summarising Features:
More refined Oxygen OS.
Improved 16 MP Front facing the camera.
Faster processor speeds with 2.35GHz.
More internal storage of 128 GB.
Better battery performance i.e. 3400 mAh.
Thin light metal design.
Fast DASH charging.
Price & Availability:
With all new improved processing speeds & higher quality front facing camera along with increased battery capacities as expected a hike in the price than the predecessor i.e. OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T model featuring 64 GB internal storage cost about $439 while the other one that features 128 GB of storage will be costing additional $40. The phone is available in the US since 22nd of November while for European countries it was made available from 28th of November this year.
Availability in India:
The Chinese company’s India General Manager, Vikas Agarwal announced through his Twitter account about the latest smartphone flagship i.e OnePlus 3T. OnePlus has made an announcement for the launch of its newly arrived model 3T in India on 2nd of December, 2016. However, there was no any hint about the Indian pricing for the phone but as expected it will be higher than the predecessor like in the other US & European countries.
