Bluetooth 5.1 Technology Latest Bluetooth Standard

Bluetooth is one of the wireless technologies that is utilized as a medium of sharing files or exchanging data over short distances, between two Bluetooth enabled devices. Using Bluetooth connection, we can connect headphones, mouse, keyboards or other accessories to PCs, smartphones or can even track a lost device from the other paired device. In January 2019, Bluetooth Special Interest Group or SIG which handles Bluetooth introduced Bluetooth 5.1.

The new version is fully loaded with tons of new features and improvements; those include new Direction Finding, GATT caching enhancements, improved connection stability, reliability, scalability, better energy efficiency and many more. Thereafter, let’s delve deep into the topic and have a closer look at each of those.

Bluetooth 5.1 Features:

1. Direction Finding

Bluetooth devices can now pinpoint your location with Direction Finding. This new feature lets your Bluetooth devices find out the direction of a Bluetooth signal, enabling the development of Bluetooth proximity solutions and Bluetooth positioning systems, to make out device’s direction and achieve down to centimeter-level location accuracy, respectively. Bluetooth 5.1 offers two different methods to determine the direction – Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD).

The angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD)

For either of these methods, one of the two devices must have an array of multiple antennae, and the data received from those antennae can be used to identify the direction of the Bluetooth signal. Generally, in the case of the AoA method, these antennae are included in the receiving device and in the case of AoD, the transmitting device comprises it. Direction Finding lets Bluetooth Low Energy controller in the receiving device create a set of data which can be used to calculate the directional angle between it and the transmitting device; this directional angle information is for creating Bluetooth-based positioning systems that include RTLS (Real-time Locating Systems) and IPS (Indoor Positioning Systems).

2. GATT Caching Enhancements

Bluetooth Low Energy devices use Generic Attribute Profile or GATT for connecting to each other. All GATT devices contain a database which is known as the Attributes table – it holds device identifier information such as GATT service, characteristic and many more. Whenever a client device connects to a server device, it performs the ‘service discovery’ to see what the server device is capable of. In Bluetooth 5.0, this process takes much time as well as energy and ends up causing a poor connection.

Bluetooth 5.1 Technology Latest Bluetooth Standard, GATT Caching Enhancements
GATT Caching Enhancements

Service Discovery and Attribute Caching

The new Bluetooth 5.1 can perform more aggressive caching and the clients can actually skip the ‘service discovery’ stage. Since the discovery process is not repeated every time when the client device is trying to connect, it delivers a better connection and improves battery life.

3. Advertising Enhancements

‘Advertising’ means how a Bluetooth device broadcasts its availability to connect to other nearby Bluetooth devices. Generally, if so many Bluetooth devices advertise their connection in a specific area, they’ll interact and cause connection problems. In Bluetooth 5.0, Bluetooth Low Energy devices broadcast their availability to nearby devices via 3 specific channels. Since these use only three channels, if two or more devices are present there, there’s a high chance of getting a poor connection. But in Bluetooth 5.1, devices choose channels randomly with Randomized Advertising Channel Indexing.

Periodic Advertising Sync Transfer Usage Example

Bluetooth 5.1 comes with another useful feature as well – Periodic Advertising Sync Transfer or PAST. This feature is mainly for Bluetooth Low Energy devices such as smartwatches, smart bands and many more. What this feature does, is that it lets the transfer of the device scheduled tasks with less energy. For example, if your phone has already made a schedule with TV, it can directly share that schedule with your smartwatch.

4. Other Minor Enhancements

  • HCI support for Debug Keys in Low Energy secure connections.
  • Sleep clock accuracy update mechanism.
  • Allow the SID and ADI to appear in scan response data.
  • Specify behavior when rules are violated.

Conclusion

As you’re seeing, Bluetooth 5.1 clearly has an upper hand over its predecessor in every term. With Bluetooth 5.0 standard, we can find the lost device yet it isn’t that much accurate, while on the other hand, Bluetooth 5.1 is capable of tracking Bluetooth devices within inches of one’s exact location. Furthermore, it can deliver better battery life, low power consumption, and improved connection, compared to the predecessor. It’s also being said that Bluetooth 5.1 will change the meaning of smart home automation.

What to Expect With Surface Event
What to Expect With Surface Event

Microsoft’s upcoming event is going to be held tomorrow and the excitement of upcoming devices next-gen. The surface devices can be heard all over the Internet. Microsoft is planning to take the next leap towards computing as it expected that Microsoft will announce a new category of device.

Recent Surface devices have powered embedded devices but it lacks incompatibility for future devices as recent gen. Surface Product doesn’t feature like Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 port option which really made the Surface device lag behind many competitors in the industry. Microsoft’s 3:2 aspect ratio also lacks for people who like to create a cinematic experience with Surface device, as 16:10 and above aspect ratio is standard for cinematic view. Support for standard display calibration like HDR or Wide Color Gamut also not available in device which is important for Photo editors. This all means that the Surface device is still not optimized for Professionals as people who edit slides or programmers can use this device for their works.

So these are necessary updates which are necessary we would expect in upcoming Surface devices, so without further ado let dive into upcoming Surface devices.

Surface Pro 7

Surface Pro 7 Leak Image
Surface Pro 7 Leak Image

Surface Pro 6 is not a phenomenal update as it just upgrades the internal from Surface 5 Pro and new color option of Black which looks awesome. But the Surface Pro 6 stills features the same as Surface Pro 4 design which is way old design pattern as many industry devices have now become slimmer and more powerful the Surface Pro 6 so Microsoft has to put emphasis on the design of upcoming Surface Pro 7. As from the rumors, Microsoft will bring slimmer chassis of Surface Pro 7.

Microsoft also needs to update the Pixel Sense display of Surface as industry content now shifting toward HDR 10 or Wide Color Gamut approach and low color profile of Surface device may cause content consumption people to look away from the Surface device. The pixel density of the device also needs to change for better and sharper looks. The bezel of the Surface device is also outdated as confirmed from leaks that Microsoft will be going to slim down the bezel of the Surface Pro 7.

The powerhouse of Surface Pro 7 will introduce Intel’s 10 Gen. CPU which is really energy-efficient as well as powerful as compared with previous-gen. Intel’s CPU. GPU of Surface Pro 7 will be the same from the Intel HD GPU series and no embedded GPU will be available from NVIDIA or AMD.

Surface Laptop 3

Surface Laptop 3 Leaks
Surface Laptop 3 Leaks

Surface Laptop 3 will be the more powerful device that will give head to head with Apple’s MacBook Pro, as it is expected that Apple will be going to launch a new MacBook Pro redesign lineup after the Surface event so Microsoft has to take this leap in this time frame. MacBook Pro 2019 up-gradation really made MacBook worth to buy as Quad-Core or Hex-Code option made MacBook Pro compelling deals.

Microsoft has put emphasis on Laptop performance rather than maintaining its differentiation as Surface Book 3 also made for comparison with Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch. This different device segment really creates confusion among users. Microsoft should take one lineup to its maximum so that it can compete with Apple’s MacBook.

Recent leaks are expecting major design changes with new redesign chassis and slimmer display bezel to add more modern aesthetic to the device. Microsoft also puts some emphasis on the port option of the device to add more compatible and the future proof option of ports rather than keeping old ports.

New Intel CPU will be a welcome change to add more device power with more reliability. According to leaks, it is also expected that the Surface Laptop 15-inch model will also be made its appearance in this event will slightly higher specs and options for a discrete GPU from AMD or NVIDIA. It is also expected that Surface Laptop 15 will feature AMD CPU rather than opting for Intel’s CPU.

Surface “Fold” Project Centaurus

Foldable Surface Devices Project Centaurus

This is one of the most unique devices which we have been heard from a while as Microsoft is trying to reinventing the computing with this new category of the device as this project is called “Project Centaurus”. We already have seen many leaks of this device from its Folding mechanism to new Core OS we are expecting to see a new range of device which will be going to change the fate of computing to support this rumors Microsoft has patented for foldable devices. After the launch, these foldable devices is expected availability will be in early 2020.

We have seen many codes of upcoming Core OS which provides a new experience with foldable Windows devices. Core OS will be based on Windows 10 with a lighter interface and easier to use.

Surface Devices Event 2019
Surface Devices Event 2019

Microsoft Hardware event is going to be amazing as Microsoft is trying to create some enthusiasm among users about its upcoming Surface lineup. Microsoft will show its product lineup on October 2. A tweet from a Microsoft leaker WalkingCat tweeted four images that seem to be the next upcoming Microsoft devices, the images put emphasis on Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3.

Surface Pro 7 is getting one of the major redesigns as some of the features in Surface Pro devices are getting deprecated like port option in existing Surface Pro still has not adopted Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 which now means really lost as device like External GPU, faster Hard drives or Server drives option are available for Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 port option. Display of Surface Pro should also need to be updated as the recent Pixel Sense display is good but not able to compare with industry other devices.

Talking about the leak images, we have seen some new redesign in surface devices with new dark colors. The pictures are showing not much as expected, we are not able to see any radical design changes from current-gen. Surface devices, for both the Surface Pro 7 or Surface Laptop 3.

Recent leaks also suggest that the new Surface device going to add USB-C support for both Surface Pro 7 and Surface Book 3. Both the device will likely to get Intel’s 10th Gen Core CPUs. One of the most interesting news about the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 version is that it will include an AMD variant which is one of the welcome changes. As AMD CPU is showing much market dent by the inclusion of new Ryzen 3rd Gen processor, AMD has been surpassing the Intel CPU in each every benchmark test.

Microsoft also trying to implement a new color combination for the upcoming Surface device as we have seen many stagnant combinations for Microsoft including earlier color like Silver and Black that makes the device look cooler but after a while users want a new color. According to the leak, Microsoft will include “glacier blue, yellow sandstone, and poppy red” are reportedly coming to the Surface Laptop 3. Rumors indicate there may be a version offered without Alcantara fabric as well, along with, potentially, AMD processors.

One of the biggest change which should be considered will be ARM support fro Surface device as Surface Pro lineup will include a simple “Surface 7” device which will feature ARM processor, with a new design including a nearly borderless display.

The upcoming Surface event is set to take place in New York City starting at 10 a.m. ET on October 2. So please be connected with us for more news about the upcoming Surface event.

iPhone 2020 Ditching The Notch Without Removing FaceID

iPhone 2020 with 6.7-inch Display Without Notch
iPhone 2020 with 6.7-inch Display Without Notch

Apple iPhone 11 reviews are still coming and meanwhile, the expectations of the upcoming iPhone are already making the sound as leaks from all over internet rumoring over iPhone 2020. As expected the iPhone 2020 will feature a major redesign from its display to internals. It is expected that 2020 iPhone will ditch the notch and FaceID will be placed in the thin bezel above the display, according to leaker and concept artist Ben Geskin.

This art is a rough sketch created by Geskin to visualize how the next-gen Apple iPhone will gonna looks like. The Camera of the iPhone is creating more problems for Apple to hide the notch inside the display of bezel, but as the technology updates, new manufacturing techniques will also occur.

It seems that Apple is also trying to redesign the model size as suggested by a leak from Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo who said that next-gen iPhone display will sports 6.7-inch for iPhone 11 Pro Max successor, 6.1-inch for iPhone 11 successor and 5.4-inch for iPhone 11 Pro’s successor. Apple also trying to implement all OLED displays in all range of iPhone 12, which sounds really amazing but Apple may add more extra features to Pro display like faster refresh rates, more contrast ratio, and better brightness. iPhone 12 may feature the same iPhone X OLED display which also an accurate and amazing display. iPhone 12 will also feature 5G support as 5G devices like Samsung Galaxy Note 10, S10 are still suffering from battery or heating issues, which means that 5G is still not reliable.

Earlier this week, Kuo added that 2020 iPhone will get a major change in design which will include the same body design as iPhone 4 that will bear the same boxier design approach rather than the current curved design like we are seeing from iPhone 6. Apple may also make the device more rigid as compared to current design that opens many doors for device damage, so chances are there that Apple could reduce these issues by implementing new design.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu have previously reported about Apple are considering to release the iPhone with both FaceID and in-display fingerprint scanner in 2020. Apple is facing to put laser scanner rather than putting an optical sensor which can easily fool by mockups. But if the testing is successful by 2019 then Apple will put it on iPhone 2020 or they will push the timeline to next year to 2021.

So the expectation of the upcoming iPhone is really round-up, new and expected features are arriving in the new iPhone so what do you think of upgrading the to next-gen iPhone rather than purchasing iPhone 11.

Joker Malware Affected Apps & How To Fix Them
Joker Malware Affected Apps & How To Fix Them

Batman can’t help you with this “Joker.” A bad batch of Android apps briefly available in the Google Play store amassed hundreds of thousands of downloads — and they reportedly carry a malware code dubbed as “Joker”, designed to sign you up for subscription-based services without user knowledge. This new Android malware may be the most twisted yet. Joker’s purpose, once deployed, is to sign up its victims to subscription services without their knowledge or consent. This new malware was first detected by CSIS Security Group malware analyst Aleksejs Kuprins, who has been monitoring the malicious code and penned a detailed analysis of Joker.

Joker Malware Affected Apps & How To Fix Them
Joker Malware Warning That Will Land You To Premium Apps Services Without Your Consent

Though the apps have been removed from the Play Store, those who still have these on their devices are recommended to delete as soon as possible. But what is Joker malware, how many apps has it affected and in which countries? We take a look at everything to know about Joker malware.

What is Joker malware and what does it do?

Joker Trojan steals money from a user’s account by signing them up for premium subscriptions. It starts by silently simulating interaction with an advertisement without the user knowing and then even steals the victim’s SMS messages, which might contain OTP to authenticate payments. Once it infects a phone or tablet through one of the host apps, it steals the device’s contact list and SMS text messages – scary stuff, but fairly commonplace in the murky world of malware.

It doesn’t stop there, though. What makes the Joker a particularly deranged piece of malware is that it also manages to simulate interactions with websites, with the end result of signing up to a paid service – with the victim left to foot the bill. So essentially, a user might not even know that they have been signed up for a subscription service and the money is being deducted from their account unless maybe they check their credit card statements, etc regularly.

Joker Malware Affected Apps & How To Fix Them
Joker Malware End Result Of Signing Up To Paid Service In Apps

“This strategy works by automating the necessary interaction with the premium offer’s webpage, entering the operator’s offer code, then waiting for an SMS message with a confirmation code and extracting it using regular expressions. Finally, the Joker submits the extracted code to the offer’s webpage, in order to authorize the premium subscription,” report says

Joker Malware: Which Apps Are Affected & In Which Countries?

In total, the 24 affected Android apps have racked up over 472,000 total downloads on the Google Play Store – a sizeable enough number that it’s definitely worth Android users double-checking their credit card statement to ensure the Joker isn’t laughing at their expense. The list includes:

  1. Advocate Wallpaper
  2. • Age Face
  3. • Altar Message
  4. • Antivirus Security- Security Scan
  5. • Beach Camera
  6. • Board Picture Editing
  7. • Certain Wallpaper
  8. • Climate SMS
  9. • Collate Face Scanner
  10. • Cute Camera
  11. • Dazzle Wallpaper
  12. • Declare Wallpaper
  13. • Display Camera
  14. • Great VPN
  15. • Humor Camera
  16. • Ignite Clean
  17. • Leaf Face Scanner
  18. • Mini Camera
  19. • Print Plant Scan
  20. • Rapid Face Scanner
  21. • Reward Clean
  22. • Ruddy SMS
  23. • Soby Camera
  24. • Spark Wallpaper

The Joker malware has targeted a total of 37 countries with a majority in Asia and the EU. In addition to India, the list includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Honduras, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Myanmar, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Argentina, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.

Joker Malware Affected Apps & How To Fix Them, Countries Affected With Joker Malware
Countries Affected With Joker Malware

Joker Malware: How To Fix It?

Whilst there are no big names in the list, nearly half a million downloads suggest that a fair few people have been hit by the Joker malware. If any of the apps above sound familiar, you’ll want to trawl through your bank and credit card statements looking for suspicious charges. There is a good chance that the services the malware has signed up a user for will not appear in their Play Store subscriptions. So, to find that out, one will need to carefully sift through their bank account, credit card statement. The Joker malware is understood to have started its reign of auto-subscription terror in June, so that’s the date to start from.

If you’re particularly alarmed or have discovered you’ve already fallen victim to the attack, you may also want to consider how you store your credit card information on your phone or tablet. While the Joker is one of the more sophisticated malware viruses we’ve seen, it will only have been able to extract a payment from you if you had your details fully stored on your device. Lastly, attacks like the Joker highlight the value of investing in a quality mobile security solution.

Joker Malware Steals Contact List So Inform Friends, Maybe?

The CSIS Security Group blog post has revealed that Joker malware can also potentially steal a user’s device information as well as contact list so it is recommended that those infected call their friends to let them know about the Trojan.

“The final important thing worth mentioning about the Joker is the phone book contact list theft. The core component collects all numbers in the contact list and sends them over to the C&C in an encrypted form,” the post added.

According to the report, the current iteration of the Joker malware campaign appears to go back as far as June of this year. Kuprins notes that Google removed the apps before his security firm reached out to the company, so it appears that the tech giant has been monitoring the situation as well.

Malware has long been a problem plaguing Android devices. Facebook has even gone so far as to file a lawsuit last month against one developer, whose malware-ridden Android app engaged in click fraud on the social media company’s ad network. While other recent Android-targeted malware campaigns have had a broader reach, such as “Agent Smith,” which has infected 25 million devices, Joker’s automated subscription attack certainly makes it among the more interesting.

Microsoft Patent For Their Upcoming Foldable Device

Foldable Surface Devices Project Centaurus
Foldable Surface Devices Project Centaurus

Microsoft Hardware Event is going to come in less than a day and leaks of new upcoming Surface device has already flooded around the internet as Surface is now trying to bring some refreshment to portable computing market, after Tablets and Laptop we haven’t seen many updates in this department but this time Microsoft is trying to bring a new segment, Foldable form-factor are already trying to reinvent mobile future as recent release from Samsung and Huawei really made us to think what these devices are capable off.

Microsoft project Centaurs already know by many people around the world because this device already has much earlier patents like the Folding mechanism. This time Redmond giant trying to apply for another patent titled ‘DEVICE CONFIGURATION-BASED THERMAL MANAGEMENT CONTROL’, Microsoft trying made Dual screen thermal management to another way by including this technology.

According to this patent, there will be a Thermal Sensor that will apply on both sides of the foldable device which will measure the thermal rating and manage the device performance to make it more cooler.

Microsoft Surface Thermal Patent
Microsoft Surface Thermal Patent

A first sensor will measure the first temperature at the first location within or on the electronic device continuously or intermittently, while the other sensor will measures a second temperature at a second location within or on the electronic device continuously or intermittently. These sensors will give a signal to the processor which will further control the operating frequency of the device which results in optimization in performance. So when the device has less operating temperature which results in a cooler device.

There is a lot of optimization will require to achieve larger foldable device as Heat is much border issue in the device as Smartphones has produced less heat as the processing power of smartphone won’t able to compare against computers processors.

Microsoft is planning to launch this device on the event but they shipped the device next year as they need more approval and also try the device before shipment. Microsoft event will be held on 2nd Oct in New York. Stay tuned for more leaks and rumors.

All About Google Camera's Features And Functions

Android 10 last week already included a new version of Google Camera that elevated Night Sight into the main interface. The Pixel 4 will introduce a more significant redesign that’s likely also coming to older Pixel phones.

The primary change in Google Camera 7.0 is a more minimal interface that emphasizes the live viewfinder preview. Switching modes is now at the very bottom of the screen, while the shutter button just floats without a black background. The top bar for flash and timer has been replaced by a panel that can be swiped open. Zoom controls at the bottom of the screen have been improved by now noting the increment.

Time-lapse provides suggestions on what each tick is useful for in the real world. All around, there are a number of improvements geared toward providing a simple and more straightforward picture-taking experience.

After installing this version, you’ll encounter a “Camera dofgood is confidential” warning. The Google Camera icon on your home screen features a dog paw to denote the Googler-only nature of this release.

More About Features

According to a reliable source, ‘Motion Mode,’ which allows users to take high-quality action shots, will be one of the Google Pixel 4’s headline camera features. The new smartphone from Google will also tout improvements to the renowned Night Sight mode.

First up is so-called Motion Mode, yet another feature bringing the Pixel lineup closer in functionality too much more expensive standalone cameras. This camera feature allows you to take sports and action shots — with moving subjects in the foreground and blurry backgrounds.

Second, Google has improved its famed Night Sight feature with Google Pixel 4. Largely considered one of the best smartphone camera “night modes,” Night Sight will be getting some speed-related and other general improvements to capture better shots at night.

Google will be bragging about Pixel 4’s ability to take photos of the starry sky, a practice known as astrophotography. It’s unclear how much better Pixel 4’s Night Sight will be, but capturing great shots of astronomical objects will apparently be part of the pitch.

All About Google Camera's Features And Functions

Meanwhile, a member of our community recently spotted some new code in the Google Camera 6.3 APK, which contains references to three new camera improvements due out later this year.

All three features are marked in code as “experimental2019,” which further indicates that these new features will be exclusive to the Pixel 4 before potentially being ported over to existing Pixel phones sometime in the future.

The first feature is called Audio Zoom, which appears to be very similar to the Zoom-in Mic feature Samsung recently added to the Galaxy Note 10. By adjusting audio levels based on where the camera is pointing and how much you’re zooming in, the new camera feature would presumably make it easier to highlight sounds from a particular subject, while also reducing distracting sounds coming from the surrounding environment.

Next comes something called Live HDR, which is expected to use machine learning to automatically retouch photos in order to enhance things like contrast, color saturation and more in real-time. XDA Developers speculate that Live HDR is likely based on the HDRnet algorithm, which was developed jointly by researchers from Google and MIT and was demoed more than two years ago back in the summer of 2017.

The last new feature spotted in the Google Camera 6.3 APK is an algorithm that is meant to cut down on distortion from the Pixel 4’s selfie cam by better correcting for the front-facing camera’s wide field-of-view. If launched, this feature should help prevent things like people’s faces from appearing fat or stretched out, and with the Pixel 4 going back to having a single selfie cam instead of the dual cams used on the Pixel 3, should help prevent the perception that the Pixel 4’s selfie game has regressed from last year.

And as a seeming confirmation of the Night Sight improvements mentioned by 9to5Google, there is code in the Google Camera 6.3 APK that includes references to a Zero Shutter Lag option for Night Sight that could speed up the process of taking low-light shots.

Design

The Redmi Note 8 Pro had a total revamp in design, being a lot more different than the Redmi Note 7 which was truly a tough warrior that withstand many of my torture tests. The Note 8 Pro is equally tough and it had a total makeover, the camera placement is different, the back is curved, the screen is bigger and best of all the camera went up from 2 rear camera to 4 rear cameras. There is more wait! The camera sensor went up to a whopping 64 Megapixel!

Redmi Note 8 Pro Review: World's First 64MP Phone
Redmi Note 8 Pro Inbox Accessories

While everyone is crazy about the green one, we took the opportunity to share the other 2 colors which we think is pretty decent as well, did you know that there is a color blue coming pretty soon? Stay tuned!

MediaTek G90T

The very first Redmi phone to take on the gaming SoC by MediaTek, well there were a lot of rumors around the cyberspace that the MediaTek will overheat beyond 50-degree Celsius while playing, and so on and so forth. Well, we did our homework and put the phone to a torture test while playing it for more than 3 Hours! It’s a nonstop playing of PUBG, NBA2k20, Asphalt 9 and Mobile Legends. All of them are graphic intense except ML. So, we check the temperature every 15 minutes, we are in a tropical country, room temp is 24 C, outside temp is 28 C, we didn’t use a case to play just to feel the nice grip on the phone. Guess what, we didn’t even exceed 40-degree C on this phone during the heat test and we used our industrial laser thermometer to take the temp for us. So, to debunk all your claims, relax, the MediaTek G90T is a performer for both games and of course multitasking I assure you. For 3 hours and 4 minutes of nonstop gaming under max volume and max brightness, the battery drained from 100 down to 22 percent on the process.

We were surprised with the score we got from AnTuTu, almost at par with Pocophone F1 which is around 290k for the Snapdragon 845.

Connectivity

The Redmi Note 8 Pro supports 9 different LTE bands, it’s easy to switch to LTE network inside the settings and what’s good on this unit now is that you can also set 2nd Sim on LTE as well since it now deploys the Dual 4G technology (but 5G is still not available on this unit) on this unit but it should consume battery faster. We have experienced no problem surfing using LTE or 3G in our home country in the Philippines as well as dual standby mode is working seamlessly. Wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac is also smooth and it also supports Wi-Fi Direct. Wireless screen mirroring is also available via the Miracast protocol as we were able to cast it to the Mi TV 4, tethering data is also working perfectly. Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and GLONASS are all present and working pretty well. We had no problem with GPS on this unit unlike the initial release of the Redmi Note 7 which has issues with GPS connectivity.

Detailed Network Band Supported on Redmi Note 8 Pro:

  • 4G:FDD-LTE:B1/B3/B5/B8
  • TDD-LTE:B34/B38/B39/B40/B41
  • 3G:WCDMA:B1/B5/B8
  • TD-SCDMA:B34/B39
  • CDMA EVDO:BC0
  • 2G:GSM:B2/B3/B5/B8
  • CDMA 1X:BC0

Audio and Video

MP4 | M4V | MKV | XVID | WAV | AAC | MP3 | AMR | FLAC | APE

Supports the new generation video codec technology HEVC, H.264, MPEG4, VC-1, VP8, VP9, and other video formats.

Camera

The moment we are waiting for, to test the camera equipped with 64MP. We did test the 64MP to check if the processing speed is faster or same as the Note 7 and to our surprise, the 64MP shot was captured in the snap of Thanos’ finger! The 64MP Samsung ISOCELL Sensor did live up to its hype and it really pulled off a stunner in the camera category.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Primary Camera

The camera takes pretty good photos in daylight and in low light areas but we noticed that the photos have yet to improve in future updates, if compared to the Redmi K20 Pro, the photos still lack the sharpness that the Redmi K20 Pro provided us, and as I said, it’s not about the megapixel since you’re not planning to make a giant billboard are you?

I honestly like the addition of the Macro lens on this phone and it’s helping me a lot taking photos of small objects.

Battery Performance

We were able to achieve an average battery rating for the 4500mAh juice, MediaTek is not really known for its battery efficiency and it really shows. By far the Redmi Note 7 was able to achieve 13 hours and 40 minutes for its 4000mAh battery. The Redmi Note 8 Pro only achieved 11 hours 3 minutes SOT for its bigger battery at 4500mAh. Charging from 15% to 100% using the stock 18W charger took us 2 hours and 10 minutes to finish the task since this phone doesn’t support QC 3 (hey it’s not even a Qualcomm)

Verdict

After playing the phone for a while, I could say that there are some pros and cons on this phone. Indeed, it has inherited the strength of the Redmi Note 7, we will torture it pretty soon. Many of its attributes have also improved like the camera, the design, the screen size, but equipping it with MediaTek probably is the reason why people are quite hesitant to buy this phone. Now look, I have tested this phone for several days and I have yet to see it overheat. Now, we even made sure that the 50-degree Celsius rumor was a fluke and its nowhere near that mark after 3 hours of pure gaming. The SoC is one hell of a performer. The camera side has yet to improve after some software updates and it’s probably going to perform like a beast once it’s corrected. The only con I know is the protruded camera placement at the back, it kind of getting in the way when I play games, plus sometimes I mistakenly trying to scan my finger on the camera, not on the FP sensor which was placed together like it was a fifth camera lens. Overall the phone is good and it will be a good buy if you have realized how good the MediaTek G90T is capable of.

Apple 2020 iPhone May Bring Back iPhone 4 Design

iPhone 12 Design Similar to iPhone 4
iPhone 12 Design Similar to iPhone 4

Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo has recently reported that 2020 iPhone lineup will feature a redesigned chassis that is a big departure from the current device pattern like from iPhone X. Apple follows same design pattern for around three years, we have seen these trend from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7, then from iPhone X to iPhone 11. These devices have an overall same design approach.

According to the new leaks, the upcoming iPhone 2020 it seems that this device might be going to inherit the features of its ancestors that is iPhone 4 that was known for its rugged use. iPhone 2020 will feature same boxier design as now is seen in the current-gen. iPhone Pro 2018.

Ming-Chi Kuo already pointed about the major redesign of iPhone 2020, with Apple new display technology which hides the notch and all the FaceID sensor will hide inside the bezel of iPhone. This major redesign is required by Apple, as Apple’s notch looks really stagnant as other smartphones in the industry have been adopted other solution like Dew Drop Notch or Pop up camera. But Pop up camera has a mechanical part which may result in wear out for long usages.

In June, Kuo reported that new 2020 iPhones will feature 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-in display. 2020 iPhone will adopt OLED in all models as at this time only current-gen. iPhone 11 uses OLED display. Apple already making a good level OLED display by the inclusion of new Super Retina XDR display which features up to 200,000:1 contrast ratio and Display brightness up to 1,200 nits which is really insane for smartphone display. Even though high refresh rates display still not able to make its way in XDR display which is a must-have feature for a Pro iPhone.

Apple iPhone 4 continues to be a beloved design as iPhone 4 design further adopted by iPhone 5 but with metal casing. So it is interesting to see how Apple will implement its tincture of an iPhone with squared-off edges.

Kuo appears to believe that the display glass of the iPhone will be slightly curved, with references to 2/2.5D glass in the report. Current iPhone display bends the metal and glass casing like a single design pattern to it will be amazing to see how Apple will implement sandwich casing rather than curved glass.

Apple already made the iPhone 11 Pro a much distinct smartphone from their other smartphone lineup as Camera performance on iPhone 11 Pro is much more stunning as compared with the previous generation of iPhone and other smartphones in the industry. 2020 iPhone will maintain these things by making much more leap toward the future.
