Microsoft announced its 2nd iteration of HoloLens at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in February but Microsoft hasn’t announced any date for the device to reach the consumer.
As the device is focused on industrial use, as many industries have already been created apps released to this device. Now Microsoft EVP Harry Shum has revealed that the mixed reality headset will go on sale sometime in September but still, we do not get exactly when will see the product. Microsoft gives the glimpse the device in many events now in World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, where other Industrial CEO’s are present for the debate of AI.
As a company spokesperson has announced in the event :
“As we announced in February, Microsoft HoloLens 2 will begin shipping later this year. We have started collecting expressions of interest for HoloLens 2 preorders and, as part of our standard practice for gathering feedback, have shared near-final prototypes with some customers, but have not announced a date for general availability.”
Microsoft has made various changes in HoloLens 2 from design to hardware as compared with HoloLens. HoloLens 2 is powered with Snapdragon’s 850 SoC, device also has a lighter form factor as the weight of the device is shifted to the backside. Field of View of the device is now double which made the device easier to use. Microsoft also updates the gesture of the device now your whole 10 finger acts as an input for the device. Now the device is protected with Retina scanner with retina-tracking capabilities.
But all these features come with the hefty price tag of $3,500 which made the device far from the general user but the target audience of this device includes enterprise users and institutions.
