Apple Watch Series 5 makes Apple reach on the top spot as it made all the requested features from its user as the latest iteration of always-on display and compass makes the watch complete companion like iPhone. One of the interesting technology of Apple Watch Series 5 it’s LTPO display which makes always-on display possible. It is expected that the future iPhone will adopt this technology to have an always-on display which made the iPhone more intuitive to use.
LTPO display makes interesting use of power as when the device is active or while the user is using its refresh rate fire up to 60Hz and when the device in idle state display refresh rates reached to as slow as 1Hz. This amazing controlling of refresh rates made possible of always-on display on and it does not make a dent to the battery life of the device.
LTPO or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide has an Oxide TFT structure that uses up to 15 percent less power than LTPS or low-temperature polysilicon, the backplane technology that Apple currently uses. This display could contribute better battery life.
A report from leaker Apple is moving to more widely apply LTPO panels to its iPhones. This means it needs to find ways to work together with Samsung Display, which is holding its own in terms of both technical prowess and production capacity in the small and mid-sized OLED sector.
The always-on display is not new to the market as Android manufactures has already been shipping a smartphone with this technology and it is a most convenient feature as when a notification arrives you can easily glimpse of notification without even to power the device. Next-generation of iPhone is expected to have this feature on the device which makes the experience more intuitive. Apple also trying to bring micro-LED to the mainstream as they try to eliminate LEDs from their other products.
