Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch finally make its loved appearance among their loyal user and this may be a chance for Apple to attract more Pro user base towards Apple ecosystem. Apple Keyboard fixes, battery increment, and graphics performance really made 16-inch MacBook Pro a real deal for Pro user.
Following one of the main teardowns by iFixit is like it tells more in-depth about Apple’s new MacBook Pro, as they published an article on their repair site in which there gives us insights into the changes that Apple has made with the keyboard and other components.
Apple diminished the concept of larger display MacBook Pro after the introduction of 17-inch which was discontinued while ago, since then Apple only focuses on 15-inch and 13-inch MacBook Pro but due to sudden shift in Apple mindset might be hinted for more enhancement toward future of MacBook Pro.
During the teardown, one of the nightmares of MacBook Pro user was their “Butterfly Mechanism” Keyboard finally dropped by Apple in a 16-inch MacBook Pro model and reintroduces Scissor keyboard with new name Magic Keyboard which is pretty similar to standalone Bluetooth Magic Keyboard for the iMac or iMac Pro. It’s slightly thinner than the prior scissor key design, but iFixit says the two scissor mechanisms look identical other than the thickness and some keys between the two keyboards are even interchangeable.
Scissor switches are more reliable than butterfly switches and are not prone to breaking from dust or other small particulates. In fact, iFixit says there’s no dust-proofing membrane on these keys, suggesting Apple doesn’t expect these keyboards to fail.
Touch ID now separated with Touch Bar the same we could observe in MacBook Air. Apple also adopted for inverted “T” arrow keys as earlier it always creates confusion among users. Underneath, there’s an Apple-designed rubber dome, a backlight assembly, and a black gasket for blocking out excess light.
Thermal throttling finally went because of new thermal architecture and some other design tweaks which help MacBook Pro 16-inch to perform at an optimum level under heavy load.
The acoustics of MacBook Pro is par better than any competition laptop as Apple creates a high level of audio experience in such a small package. There are 6 speaker setup 3 on both sides which made longer speaker enclosure with opposed woofers on the top and bottom, which are meant to cancel out each other’s vibration.
The battery on MacBook Pro 16-inch is rated at 99.8Wh (11.36V, 8790 mAh) battery, which is the largest capacity that’s still allowed on planes by airlines. Apple has incremented 16.2Wh over the prior 15-inch MacBook Pro. To get the extra capacity into the new machine, Apple made each battery 0.8mm thicker.
While some features are there, where Apple still hasn’t listened to Pro user as RAM, Storage and GPU all are soldered to the logic board and Battery was tightly glued to the case which causes repairability of the device hard this made iFixit team award MacBook Pro 16-inch 1 out of 10 in repairability score.
