Dell at CES 2020 showing its product of future rather than showing devices of the present, during their event at CES Dell has introduced a Foldable Notebook called as Dell Ori Concept and Dell Duet concept. Earlier at CES 2020, they have introduced XPS 13 15-inch, and they also introduced portable Gaming devices called as Alienware Concept UFO. Now Dell tries to enter the future of computing by the introduction of the Dell foldable notebook.

Last year Microsoft also launched its concept of the foldable notebook by the introduction Surface Neo which runs on Windows 10X which still now available as Microsoft is already building the software of devices. Dell somehow not able to get Windows 10X yet but this foldable device will need Windows 10X in the future.

Dell Duet & Dell Ori Concept: Future Of Notebooks

For demo purposes, Dell is still using Windows 10 OS rather than Windows 10X, but the purpose of the foldable notebook is really a future which is confirmed by Dell. The dual-screen will give more room for ideas and creativity to grow while there is an option for an external keyboard that attaches to the display of the device and work seamlessly. But these foldable devices are also good without any external keyboard support.

Dell is not new to coming to this market as earlier at CES 2020 Lenovo also launched their concept for a foldable device with introduction Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. It seems the trend for Dual Screen foldable concept and it may grow as the passage of time.

Dell Ori Concept: With 13″ QHD+ Resolution Display

Talking about the devices foldable Dell Ori Concept Ori or called as “Origami”. Because it folds. The device features two 13-inches QHD+ resolution Display which looks really immersive. Their no border on the screen so no more distraction and black bars which looks pretty much annoying. Other details of the devices like GPU, CPU are hidden under the lid as Concept Ori is still in its building phase, it might happen that Dell might move toward Intel their CPU’s as Microsoft did with their Surface Neo. The display looked good, although there was a visible crease on the screen, especially when it was partially folded.

Dell Duet: With 2 Display 13.4″ FHD Panel

Dell Duet concept is also a dual screen foldable notebook that looks much similar to Dell’s XPS 13 2-in-1 while you can rotate both displays as you want. The Dell Duet concept has two separate displays joined by a hinged design which helps the device to fold pretty easily.  Both screens on the Concept Duet are 13.4-inch FHD panels, which looked on par with any of Dell’s other displays.

Users can use two displays for their convenience as there is an option to use the display side by side for opening two apps on a different screen or can use like a clamshell as one screen use as a display while another one can be used for keyboard or other touch functionality purposes. Dell showed off an ebook with each panel displaying a single full page (just like a real book), while another had two documents side by side for planning a trip.

Otherwise while using these devices is pretty flawless, for typing users will get a soft keyboard while for pointer operation the user can use their finger as the device is touch-capable. Dell also provides an option to have an external keyboard that transforms one screen as a base while other screen works like a similar display, the user can move the keyboard upside to view the trackpad.

While making these laptops Dell also made some sacrifices with their actual weight of the device as two displays made the device a little bit heavier than a regular laptop but give extra functionality of extra screen space. The extra screen also made the device more fragile as normal clamshell notebook have metal or at-least plastic body while moving the body to all screen add a little bit of frailness to the device.

One of the major concerns of the device is its operating system for Dell Duet and Dell Ori concept as it has needed a new operating system so that the user can take full benefit of the device. Microsoft is still building their Windows 10X software and it is not ready yet, Microsoft is also hoping to join more developer to their ecosystem so more and more apps can be built.

Dell isn’t sure about the release date of Dell Ori Concept and Dell Duet concept but hopes to be released somewhere around holiday season of 2020. By looking at these devices it might be more interesting to see what more the future will uphold for future of notebooks.
