iPad Pro and MacBook coming with Mini-LED display in 2020

Apple iPad Pro and MacBook Pro event are already creating the environment for the launch of new products this month, But as noted by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that A apple is planning to release a high-end iPad and MacBook models with Mini-LED display between late 2020 and mid-2021. This means we will see a massive change in technology when Apple will push its display from LED to Mini-LED. Recent MacBook Pro still featuring best display but they already created display benchmark by releasing Mac Pro’s XDR displays which really features insane specs, Apple is trying to close these gap introduction of Mini-LED display’s.

In a research note for TF International Securities, seen by MacRumors, Kuo added that the iPad and MacBook display will use approximately 10,000 LEDs, compared to 576 in Apple’s upcoming Pro Display XDR. Mini Display LEDs are approximately 200 microns in size which will help Apple to push to that massive amount of LED into this package.

A report earlier from Kuo also said it is expecting that iPad models will have 10-12 inch and 15-17 inch display for MacBooks. Apple trying to push the boundary by going to maximum screen to size ratio and create less bezel display.  By inclusion of Mini-LED may push the cost of iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models by far but the expectation of the price is still not set.

Apple already pioneering LCD display by creating the most accurate LCD display in iPhone 11, and also trying pushed the level of OLED display as Retinal XDR now also becomes a thing so Apple can make some more enhancement by the inclusion of Mini-LED displays.  Although mass production of medium-sized OLED displays has gradually improved and the wide color gamut performance of OLED is comparable to that of Mini-LED, Kuo believes that Apple’s first choice will be Mini-LED because it does not have burn-in issues and reduce its dependence on Samsung for the supply of OLED displays.

Apple already investing in the vast majority of brands for its display production like LG or Japan Display for suppling display. LG Display will supply the Mini-LED display panels, while other Mini-LED component suppliers will include Epistar, Zhen Ding, Radiant Opto-Electronics, Nichia and so on according to Kuo.

By inclusion of Mini-LED it is expected that it will allow the display to be thinner and lighter product, while also offering good wide color gamut performance, high contrast, HDR, local dimming, which dims the backlight behind areas of the screen that are displaying black while keeping the bright parts of the screen bright and most effective on power as it will take less power. These things will help Apple to choose Mini-LED rather than OLED in the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro 2020. These devices will b in the market at around late 2020 or early 2021 in iPad Pro and MacBook Pro.
