Apple introduces walkie-talkie feature in watchOS 5 it works along with your FaceTime service which requires internet connection. Due to some security issues in watchOS 5, Apple has to shut down this service for 2-3 weeks which requires next watchOS update.

Apple is intended to build more feature in this walkie-talkie and introduce it in your iOS devices. Apple may bring this feature in its upcoming iPhones.

A report by The Information states Apple might be working with Intel in this technology. It was condemned as Project OHRS (off Grid Radio Service) at Apple and Project Shark at Intel. Who says that brand doesn’t have a sense of naming.

This new features will not work on WiFi or Cellular services as like current Walkie-Talkie feature in the Apple Watch. Instead of working on these current service standards Apple and Intel were developing this feature to work with certain hardware which includes inside the upcoming devices. This feature has the same as an old school like original walkie-talkie which will work for long distances. The Information describes it as “something like a walkie talkie for text messages, giving people the ability to communicate in areas unserved by wireless carriers.” On idea this thinking, this looks more amazing but in reality, it may require some technology proves its validity.

There are many problems regarding this type of services is about privacy issues. Encryption also becomes very in this type of features.

This technology may have many advantages were areas where there is no cellular connectivity or in some natural disasters, this feature can improve connectivity. There are many sneers which we could not possibly think of today but in the future, it may revolutionize the industry and save people’s lives.

This project is led by Rubén Caballero who already led Apple modem projects. This project is still in the research phase and it may require some time to be full-proof until it arrives for normal people. Hope this technology may arrive in upcoming iPhone XI which will introduce in next month sometime. Stay tuned for more reports on this project.
